Pachis work,Indian Embroidery-A variation

Here's another variation for Pachis work lovers... For those who missed the previous Pachis work post, here's the link

I've used variegated anchor pearl cotton thread hence the double color. The center cross is purposely stitched outside- you can vary it any way you want to- stitch it within ,outside (as I have) or make it longer so that it meets the corners - and oh yes, you could use another color for it too.
I've been quite busy at the home front to make a photo tutorial. But I could help you with the sequence for the basic Pachis block. Vary it according to your design requirements. Here's the sequence .The center cross is not included.

Stitch it in the following order - Follow the blue line to the top, come down with the green line, then back up with brown and down with the peach (isn't it peach?) .Stitch the cross in the centre for each square. and repeat for the horizontal bar .The centre cross is not included in the sequence shown below.

Tagged!!!

Patty has put me in thinking mode - I've been trying to come up with some 'Unspectacular quirks' of mine. Frankly, I'd never ever given a thought to these so called quirks until now. I used to go about reading all the 'tagged' posts wondering how all of 'em come up with such innovative stuff - I mean, look at me - I am such a 'normal' person!!! But,now, after 8 hrs of being tagged, I've realised that I too am 'quirky' , if not the quirkiest!!!

Here are the rules of the game :
1. Link back to the person who tagged you
2. Mention the rules on your blog
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.
Hmm..Here goes
Discovery 1 : Cockroach mania ( cannot be phobia - coz Iam not afraid of them-unless they pounce on me) Iam ready to chase and destroy cockroaches any time of the day or night.I usually wake up in the middle of the night, go to the kitchen and switch on the lights just to count the number of those creatures. I can proudly claim to have researched and experimented on various cockroach elimination techniques.
Discovery 2 : I love squeezing blackheads (he,he)
Discovery 3 : I absolutely love eating Sweet tamarind, any time of the day.
Discovery 4 : I can imagine myself to be in some great tragic situation ( such as me at the last stage of some terrible disease and dying) and cry thinking of how the world is going to cope without me. (Don't laugh)Shucks!! I didn't realise I was so weird...
Discovery 5 : I can spend the whole day in a book shop.
Discovery 6 : I cannot bring myself to eat the chicken that I've cleaned and cooked. Not the same though for Fish or mutton.I wonder why??
Ok, now for the tagging part -
Judy, anitha, maureen , Elsie (breaking the rule a bit here..only 4 ,not 6)
Iam off to tell them about the tag...ta,ta.

Kamal Kadai- Another possible example ?

Had a pleasant surprise today when I happened to see Janet's Post on Unusual embroidery ..and guess what ? - it was a piece of fabric embroidered with kamal kadai stitch .
Janet has also mentioned that it looks similar to a style called tenerife and I agree with her.
Teneriffe embroidery are taken from teneriffe lace, a needle made sun lace that can trace it’s origin back to the 16th century.Kamal kadai looks to be a simplified version of the same. Have a look at this butterfly design created using tenerife..absolutely cool ,is n't it?
This world is such a small place...Iam stumped!!!
